In 2005 a small group of committed followers of Jesus moved to Savannah to advance the kingdom of God through the ministry of the Navigators.  We began with military personel at Hunter Army Airfield, and now our network is spreading among college students and other young men and women throughout the city.  Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus in every nation of the world beginning with Savannah by teaching people to observe all that Jesus commanded (Mat 28.19-20).  For more about the Navigators click here.
When Jesus walked the earth his followers were known as "disciples"--passionate imitators of himself (Acts 11.26).  Disciple is not a certificate, achievement, or one-time transaction but a life radically consumed by a single pursuit: to know and become like Jesus (Matthew 10.24-25; 1 John 2.6).

Following Jesus is a lifestyle and a process by which we learn to do what he did and live as he lived (Luke 6.39-40; John 14.12).  Our network exists to make disciples of Jesus and aid their pursuit of this lifestyle (Matthew 28.19-20).  We invest in individuals to help them pursue the goal of discipleship (see illustration below), while continuing to examine Jesus' life and teachings and align ourselves more and more closely with the Master's ways.
Discipleship is a simple but demanding process.  We seek to make disciples by...

  • teaching people what it means to follow Jesus
  • providing practical training as new followers are obedient to Jesus' command to labor in his kingdom, training them to live out and teach what Jesus taught and to help others become disciples of Jesus
  • weaning disciples from dependence on the teaching of others to become "self-feeding" -- saturating themselves in the life of Jesus and in the Bible by studying with accuracy, understanding, and with application to real life
  • continue to coach, partner, and invest in each other to help disciples mature and reproduce other disciples of Jesus wherever they go
